Osteopathy focuses primarily on the manipulation of the musculoskeletal system while taking a holistic approach to health. It focuses on the relationship between the organs and the musculoskeletal system as well as on treating the whole individual rather than just the disease. It is used by people of all ages who suffer from pain, tackling complaints ranging from sports and work-related injuries to arthritis, sciatica and migraine. Osteopathy is used to alleviate pain and improve the patient's function and mobility. Osteopathy is particularly concerned with maintaining correct relationships between bones, muscles, and connective tissues. It can be of benefit to all, from the young to the elderly. Every patient is looked at as an individual and a treatment programme designed to suit your needs and lifestyle.
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment.
Diagnosis is made from looking at posture and movement patterns. Osteopathy is a hands on treatment, successfully promoting health without drugs or surgery.

Why do we have pain? Pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. It is often caused by swelling and inflammation of tissue, which creates pressure and stimulation on nerves and leads to discomfort. Pain is often the main mechanism to alert you to a problem, and stops you from damaging your body further. Pain must always be taken seriously.
Pain can affect many areas of the body, but particularly the lower back, head, neck, joints and legs. This is often why people come to see an osteopath.
Osteopaths can diagnose the cause of pain and stiffness and help to ease it by reducing tissue inflammation and improving mobility. The osteopaths treatment methods range from massage of muscles and connective tissues to gentle manipulation and stretching of joints. This helps to reduce muscle spasm, to increase mobility and to create a healthier state in which damaged tissues can heal.
Much long-term, recurrent pain is caused by degenerative changes to the body's framework. Nobody can reverse this process of ageing, but your osteopaths treatment may still ease pain. The skilled techniques of osteopathy can often allow you a speedy return to normal activity. If you have had a pain for a long time, and other forms of treatment have not helped, osteopathic treatment can be beneficial, although it may require time and patience.

What do we treat?

Osteopathy is best known for the treatment of low back and neck pain. In general most joint and muscle problems can be treated using Osteopathy. Some less well-known conditions can improve with osteopathy, including PMT, migraine, IBS, some respiratory conditions.
